Spin Cycle

A few days before we went on vacation, sings went up around the building saying that the laundry room would be closed for "total renovation" from May 14 to May 21. We didn't have the best laundry room, but at every shareholders' meeting they tell us the building is strapped for cash, so I'm a little baffled by the choice to do a "total renovation" of something perfectly functional, and of course I worry about the prices going up, because even if they do, I'm far too lazy to go to the laundromat.

Anyway, not the point. The point is, it wasn't finished on the 21st. When we got back from Mexico, new signs said that due to "scheduling changes" (really? changes? you really thought it'd be done in a week?) it would be done on the 29th.

It was not.

And really, that's all okay. That's the nature of construction, right? They tore up the floor, they got all new machines, put in a new sink… it's not a small project and when I walked by to snoop the workers did not appear to be the swiftest or smartest. But why not be realistic about it? We have two laundromats within 2 blocks, it's not the end of the world, just say, "Hey, this is gonna take three weeks," and then we'll be psyched when it's done in two-and-a-half, right?

Today, this memo was in the elevator: "CONGRATULATIONS THE NEW LAUNDRY ROOM IS OPEN AND READY FOR YOU TO ENJOY."

Congratulations? Enjoy? Whee! I can't wait to enjoy doing my laundry! Even when they don't do anything specifically wrong, I just want to smack the people in our management office.

(The new laundry room is pretty nice though....)
